Once Millie’s was really a diner, and although it’s been renovated, the counter, booths and open kitchen are still here. It’s not a diner anymore, however, for now a talented young chef works the gas stove, turning out a variety of tasty dishes. His spicy Thai shrimp is always on the blackboard menu, which otherwise changes every 2 weeks. Sometimes he features South-influenced cooking, sometimes dishes from the Pacific Rim or Caribbean. Regardless, he prepares everything from scratch as you watch if you grab a counter seat. Excellent fare, an entertaining waitstaff and hearty portions make this noisy eatery highly popular among Richmond’s young professionals.
